My husband and I realized our dream when we bought land and built a house on a small island called Great Guana Cay, in the Abacos chain of islands of the Bahamas. We named the cottage "South Pause" (I'm a lefty, we have cats, we're at the south end of the island, and going there is a pause from our "real" lives!). I began collecting sea glass, shells, dead coral pieces, and interesting rocks on the blissfully deserted beaches over there, and after filling glasses, jars and baskets full, decided to try fashioning some jewelry out of my treasures.
All of the sea glass, shells, stones, and coral have been "hand harvested" by me, on endless walks along the beaches. None of the pieces has been altered in any way, except the hole that I personally drill into them for the jewelry pieces. I put some clear polish on some of the shells, to give them a little "shine".
In keeping with the trend towards the "greening" of our world, the sea glass pieces recycle yet one more time, bits of glass that were once bottles or jars of some sort have now found a new life!
